I have had the privilege of receiving leadership coaching from four individuals over the course of my professional life. Diane was by far the most effective. I truly appreciate Diane’s no-nonsense approach to addressing workplace dysfunction and her candor with where I had room to improve to realize my best professional self. She remains accessible, agile, and encouraging despite the many spontaneous requests I have thrown her way over the years. I do not think I would have stayed in healthcare leadership had it not been for Diane’s support. She has improved the healthcare system despite not being on the frontline. I really think that’s remarkable.

Have you ever encountered a situation that gnaws at the very core of your being? Perhaps a moment when a colleague's complaint against you felt like a betrayal, or a dispute with a peer caused significant distress and challenged your sense of self. It was during such trying times that I had the privilege of working with Diane LeBlanc. Diane has an extraordinary gift for empowering everyone involved, offering insights that change perspective and build confidence. With Diane’s guidance, I moved from feeling deeply troubled to embracing a renewed trust in the fundamental decency of people. Collaborating with Diane was a transformative experience that I cherish.

I really valued learning about different conflict response styles and how I (and others) may use different responses depending on the context. I also really appreciated learning about some of the patterns and theories of conflict, which helped me to step back from intense emotional reactions in order to assess a conflict situation rationally and choose a response designed to reduce conflict. I found it especially helpful to analyze some of my own conflict situations in order to identify some of the issues at play and options for responding in a productive manner while also learning how to take others’ responses less personally.

As co-leads, we engaged IPMI to work with our leadership team to build a development plan that was reflective of our goals, values and strategic direction. Diane and Brennan worked closely with us to conduct a team-level assessment, including group level engagement as well as individual interviews. They created a development plan to support our goal of becoming a high-performance team, to optimize teamwork, and to consistently apply our values, principles and approaches. IPMI provided helpful insights and recommendations for change to strengthen processes and create efficiencies, along with some helpful resources for continued learning. Our work with IPMI was most certainly a worthwhile investment and we hope to work with them again in the near future. Highly recommended!

The support offered was valuable for many reasons - the structured approach to our organizational design work (including governance, accountability, structure, and functioning) provided a valuable way to evaluate and assess various options. It facilitated identification of principles, planning assumptions/considerations, choices, and criteria by which to assess each option; it also identified gaps, benefits, and priorities for consideration all within the current context. This approach also provided documentation that captured the work and the decisions which was exceptionally helpful in taking this forward to build consensus and seek approval to implement the new design. Facilitation and pace of the process was excellent. The output was very valuable - the ongoing revisions to the report and sharing it along the way stimulated our thinking between meetings. The final report was valuable to document the work and pull from for sharing. The work met my expectations and led to positive organizational outcomes; it was definitely worth the investment of time and money. I had lots swirling in my head about the issues we were facing, but using this process made things more clear and logical.

Transitioning into a new leadership role at the heels of covid was thrilling nonetheless intimidating. Diane was influential and supportive in my journey to reclaiming my energy and motivation. She encouraged the integration of theory/concepts into practice, allowed time for self-reflection, listened, and explored my experiences. This journey was powerful and inspired my self-discovery as a leader, brought clarity and understanding to the convergence of leadership with my interpersonal self, recognizing my own value and the contributions I can make to the organization.

I've collaborated with a number of organizational development consultants over the years, primarily in healthcare. While many OD consultants bring varying degrees of experience and knowledge, Diane and Brennan are among the few I’ve partnered with who know how to apply sound scientific methods and scholarship from industrial and organizational psychology to the work of improving organizational health. Diane and Brennan are the consultants people sometimes call in after all other efforts have failed — when individuals, groups, and organizations find themselves deeply stuck in situations encumbered by years of unresolved and unproductive conflict, leadership challenges, poorly managed change processes, and a distrusting and disengaged workforce. Time and again, I have seen outcomes no one thought possible including meaningful performance improvements in the individual leaders they coach as well as increased psychological safety, trust, and engagement in the teams they work with. These kinds of results are only possible through the kind of in-depth analysis, expertise guidance and trustworthy strategies that Diane and Brennan provide.
